The land there is flat, exposed, and ancient-feeling, giving the elephants a natural path through the dust and grass.

On this afternoon, I was alone and able to position myself safely very low beneath the vehicle. That lower angle gave the lead bull more presence and stature, making him feel as powerful as he looked in that moment.

What I love most about this photograph is the movement. These bulls were thirsty and walking with purpose. Once they had picked up the scent of water, their whole posture changed. Their heads swung, their ears moved, and their trunks loosened with each step. There is a certain swagger to an old elephant bull walking towards water in the dry season — a pace and character that disappears once he has drunk, fed, and settled again.

This image is about the moment before relief: the pull of water, the weight of the dry season, and three old bulls moving with quiet authority across an ancient landscape.

Print Specifications

Image size: 36 × 24 inch

Paper size: 40 × 30 inch, including white border

Giclée pigment print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm

Digitally signed and edition-numbered by Devon Jenkin

Limited edition of 15 prints

Certificate of authenticity included

Story card included

Archival inks — rated 100+ years under glass

Pricing

€375 launch price — orders open 1 July

€450 standard price from 10 July

Conservation

20% of the profit from every print supports Ecoexist, helping protect the landscapes and wildlife that make work like this possible.

This print is part of the Africa's Chiefs collection.

Framing

This print is prepared for a 40 × 30 inch frame with a mount.
