About me
Greetings, I'm Devon Jenkin – a safari/film guide and a self-taught wildlife photographer. My roots lie in the heart of Southern Africa, Zimbabwe, where I cultivated a deep connection to the wilderness from my early years. Fueled by adventurous parents, I spent holidays camping and fishing, laying the foundation for a future in guiding and leading mobile safaris in Botswana over the past decade.
Photography has been my medium for understanding and appreciating the natural world, teaching me the art of observation and the virtue of patience. With a camera in hand, I find my happy place, capturing the unfolding beauty of the natural world.
Currently based in Germany with my wife and two beautiful daughters, I am on a mission to leverage my decade-long archive of images. By curating and sharing these moments, I aim to raise both funds and awareness for vital conservation projects in southern Africa. Join me in supporting these initiatives, where every image tells a story and contributes to the preservation of our precious wildlife heritage.
Some of my values
-
Conservation
At my core, I am a conservationist and although I have not gone down the line of direct conservation work, I am using my photography to give back to the programs and selfless people dedicated to protecting wildlife and habitat for our future generations to come. All purchases on this site support conservation in southern Africa.
-
Education
There is always something to learn in nature, and being in a position to pass on what I have learned about the natural world to others is such a privilege. From a guiding perspective, a lot of what I do is educating, but still being open to being educated along the way is a big part of the journey.
-
Exploration
If I am not with guests on safari I am out exploring new wildlife areas in southern Africa or revisiting my favorites in the Okavango and the Kalahari. Generally alone but never without my trusty steed, Rafiki - the seemingly indestructible, 30-year-old 80 series Land Cruiser.
Photographic Style
In my wildlife photography, I aim to capture the essence of African wildlife, embracing the beauty of creatures ranging from the grandeur of lions and elephants to the grace of smaller antelopes and birds. I focus on creating simple yet intimate portraits that reveal the genuine expressions and natural behaviours of each subject. What I hope sets my work apart is a commitment to minimal disruption – an attempt to respect and preserve the authenticity of their habitats and behaviours. The bush has always been an escape for me, and using photography as a means to explore and learn the ways of the wild has really led me to have a deep sense of responsibility to portray the wildlife in a way that honours their innate beauty with humility.
