About me

Devon jenkin

My photographic journey began when I was 12 years old and inherited my grandfather’s Pentax 35mm film camera. Taking photos was exciting, but the real magic happened when I held the developed prints in my hands. That feeling—of capturing fleeting moments and bringing them to life—had me hooked.

Growing up in Zimbabwe, I was lucky to be surrounded by wild places and incredible wildlife from an early age. My parents, always up for an adventure, took us into the bush whenever they could, instilling in me a deep love and respect for the natural world.

In my twenties, I found myself managing high-end safari camps and mobile expeditions in Botswana. But counting stock in camp wasn’t what I had in mind for a life in the wild—I wanted to be out there, experiencing it. So, I became a safari guide, a move that opened countless doors. Beyond guiding safaris, I worked with international film crews, helped train the next generation of guides, and honed my skills leading specialized photographic safaris.

After 13 years of living and working in Botswana, I now run my own African photographic safaris, sharing my passion for wildlife and photography with others. Though I’m now based in Germany with my wife and kids, Africa is still at the heart of everything I do.

My photographic style

In my wildlife photography, I strive to capture the raw beauty and untamed spirit of Africa’s incredible wildlife, from the commanding presence of lions and elephants to the delicate grace of antelopes and birdlife. My approach focuses on creating striking yet intimate portraits that showcase the authentic expressions, behaviors, and intricate details of each subject. Guided by a deep respect for nature, I prioritize minimal disruption, allowing each scene to unfold naturally in its true environment.
For me, the African wilderness has always been more than just a subject—it’s a refuge, a place of endless discovery. Through photography, I immerse myself in the rhythms of the wild, translating these moments into powerful images that inspire connection, appreciation, and a sense of responsibility for conservation. Every frame is an invitation to witness the beauty of nature with humility and awe, preserving these fleeting encounters for generations to come.

    Conservation

At my core, I am a conservationist and although I have not gone down the line of direct conservation work, I am using my photography to give back to the programs and selfless people dedicated to protecting wildlife and habitat for our future generations to come. All purchases on this site support conservation in southern Africa.

  • Exploration

If I am not with guests on safari I am out exploring new wildlife areas in southern Africa or revisiting my favorites in the Okavango and the Kalahari. Generally alone but never without my trusty steed, Rafiki - my seemingly indestructible, 30-year-old 80 series Land Cruiser.

    Education

There is always something to learn in nature, and being in a position to pass on what I have learned about the natural world to others is such a privilege. From a guiding perspective, a lot of what I do is educating, but still being open to being educated along the way is a big part of the journey.
